What is Shree / Shri / Sri Yantra?

Shree Yantra is a holy geometrical depiction of feminine divinity, Shakti. Geometry of Shri Chakra (Shri Yantra) and its importance has been explained in detail in Yogini Hridaya, second part of the Vamakeshvara Tantra. It also describes the nature of Shakti and origin of Universe. Four upward pointing triangle represents masculine divinity Shiva and five downward pointed triangle represents feminine divinity Shakti.  Combination of these four upward pointed and five downward pointed triangle in Shri Yantra is perfect demonstration of fusion of Shiva and Shakti which creates universe and life.

Contrary to the common believe that Shri Yantra represents goddess Laxmi, The truth is Shree Yantra represents all feminine divinity and of course goddess Laxmi is one of them.  In southern part of India it is common to see Shree Chakra in many temples and in almost every household. It is equally popular in Northern India where people worship Shree Yantra for better fortune and luck. In Tantra Shashtra, it is believed that worshipping of Shakti with devi mantra along with this Yantra gives speedy result. Though there are different Yantra for different form of Shakti (Kali, Durga, Laxmi), but worshipping Shri Yantra gives balanced effect of worshipping all these form of Shakti.
